The Last Supper Art for Catholics
Catholic homes are likely to have an image of the Last Supper hanging in the dining room or the kitchen. The Last Supper commemorates the final meal Jesus shared with twelve of His followers, His apostles, and the moment when He gave the First Communion (Eucharist) to them. Every Catholic Mass is a celebration of the Eucharist, but the Catholic Church specifically remembers the Last Supper each year on Holy Thursday, the Thursday before Easter Sunday.
The most famous version of the Last Supper, and the one most often found in Catholic homes, was painted by Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519).
